Climate-smart Packaging Solutions Are Our Business Idea

Environmental stewardship has always been one of Team ET's core values, now more than ever. From design to finished product, circular thinking is a major factor in enabling as climate-smart packaging solutions as possible. In all construction and production, we strive to avoid material combinations that complicate recycling. We use our expertise to utilize the least amount of material in each design, without compromising functionality, thereby minimizing environmental impact. Efficient resource use, both in terms of energy and materials, has always been an important part of our daily work and business model.

Energy Efficiency Is Crucial

In the packaging industry, we have long been recognized for our work on energy efficiency. Our production units are nearly self-sufficient in electricity from our solar panel installations on walls and roofs. Our goal is for all Team ET's production facilities, offices, and properties to be entirely self-sufficient in clean energy in the future!

In 2022, Team ET's units together produced approximately 900,000 kWh! The units in Stockholm and Malmö have been completely self-sufficient in self-produced electricity (over the entire year) for several years, and our units in Riga, Tallinn, and Gothenburg are moving in the same direction. Our ongoing and continued work in energy efficiency ensures that our own productions, offices, and properties leave the smallest possible climate footprint.

Sustainable Material Flows for the Circular Economy

Circular thinking is always a strong focus in our sales, design, and production work. Every scrap piece we use in production contributes to positive resource use, which results in reduced emissions! We believe in strong collaborations with our partners, suppliers, and customers to enable effective reuse and recycling flows. We have ongoing discussions and projects with our suppliers to develop and advance alternative materials that contribute to a positive climate transition. This includes everything from reducing actual greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to collaborating to achieve circular material flows.

Today, our units in Gothenburg, Malmö, Riga, and Tallinn have machines to easily break down the EPE waste from our production. This facilitates and streamlines recycling into new raw material. We aim to develop materials that contribute to a circular economy. We have open, ongoing discussions with our suppliers about materials based on PCR plastic, sugarcane, corrugated cardboard, and other alternative materials' environmental impact, quality functions, and how they can fit into circular material flows. Trends Over the Past Year

In the past two years, we have seen a dramatic increase in engagement on all types of sustainability issues from our stakeholders, especially regarding climate transition. We warmly welcome these issues and assert that they are crucial for organizations to conduct stable operations in the future. The demand for a range of climate-smart packaging solutions has increased, and we have actively developed a new material portfolio over the past year. The goal is for all materials in the portfolio to contribute to sustainable material flows and a circular economy, which we have succeeded in achieving so far. This has led us to remove several materials we believe do not contribute to the climate transition we are all undergoing and introduce new, exciting materials that will help all our stakeholders contribute to a circular and climate-smart economy.

One example of a newcomer in our material portfolio is EPEX ECO, where the raw material is biomass waste. We are proud, together with our partners, to be the first in Northern Europe to develop solutions in this ISCC PLUS certified EPEX material!

Trends and demand for products and services with transparent, sustainable supply chains have increased the most. This includes everything from ensuring good working conditions throughout the supply chain to providing necessary emissions data on products. This is crucial for ensuring sustainable development together. Part of this work involves two Chain of Custody standards we have begun working with, FSC and ISCC PLUS, and which we plan to be certified against in 2023 and 2024, respectively. Additionally, we continue to work with our suppliers to develop and use materials that facilitate and contribute to transparent, circular material flows.

We are in a very exciting period for the entire Team at Emballageteknik, and in 2024, we plan to release our first sustainability report to clearly show where we are today and where we are heading. The work to develop new KPIs related to the UN’s Global Development Goals is actively underway, and we are eager to report our goals and our operational plan related to Agenda 2030 in the near future!
